- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 1 medium carrot, finely diced
- 2 celery stalks, finely diced
- 2 large garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- ½ cup dry red wine
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 cans crushed tomatoes
- 1½ lb gnocchi

- Add garlic and cook for another minute before stirring in the ground beef. Cook until browned (about 5–6 minutes).
- Pour in red wine and let it simmer for 1–2 minutes.
- Mix in tomato paste and herbs; add crushed tomatoes and beef stock. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook gnocchi according to package instructions; drain once done.
- Once the sauce thickens, remove bay leaves and stir in cooked gnocchi along with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
