  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 5 ounces evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 oz) bag caramels, unwrapped
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. Cream softened butter with granulated and brown sugar until smooth; add vanilla and eggs one at a time.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until fully combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips and spread half of the dough into the prepared dish. Bake for 8–10 minutes.
  6. While baking, melt caramels with evaporated milk in a double boiler; stir in peanut butter until smooth.
  7. Pour caramel over the baked layer and drop spoonfuls of remaining dough on top.
  8. Bake for an additional 15–20 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
