These quick and delicious Asian-inspired beef bowls make the perfect weeknight dinner. Ready in about 30 minutes, they feature savory ground beef cooked with hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and a touch of spice, served over fluffy jasmine rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup uncooked rice white jasmine rice recommended
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 red bell pepper chopped
  • Optional Garnish:
  • Scallions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

Cook the Rice

  • Prepare the rice according to the package directions. Adjust the quantity if needed for 4 servings.

Cook the Beef

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until fully browned (about 8-10 minutes).
  • Drain excess fat if necessary.

Make the Sauce

  • Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the brown sugar, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, grated ginger, and minced garlic.

Add the Bell Pepper

  • Return the skillet to medium heat and stir in the chopped red bell pepper.
  • Cook for a few more minutes, stirring often, until the peppers are tender-crisp.

Assemble the Bowls

  • Serve the beef mixture over the cooked rice.
  • Garnish with scallions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Easy Ginger Prep: Freeze a whole piece of ginger for easier grating and to keep it fresh longer. A Microplane zester works great for this.
Adjusting Spice Level: If you don’t have sriracha, you can omit it. If you love spice, feel free to add more!
Serving Ideas: Try serving this dish with steamed broccoli, snap peas, or a fried egg on top for extra flavor.
